Hard Werken was a Dutch graphic design company in the 1970’s who produced material for a variety of events and things. The main drive behind this organization was Rick Vermeulen, who was born in Schiedam, the Netherlands, in 1950. Vermeulen studied graphic art at the Rotterdam Academy, and graduated in 1972.

While working at the Rotterdam Graphic Workshop, Vermeulen collaborated/worked with Bert Bakker, a publisher in the city. Vermeulen eventually started the Hard Werken Magazine (1978) with Willem Kars, Henk Elenga, Gerard Hadders, and Tom van den Haspel. The Design Studio eventually also changed its name to Hard Werken.
